The deeper you go, the darker and dirtier it gets. Rabbit Hole delivers Kiefer Sutherland (24) as private espionage agent John Weir, an unscrupulous operator who helps wealthy clients manipulate financial markets and subvert democracy. Snowfall examines the social impact of the drug and the story of several characters including CIA operative Teddy McDonald and a Mexican crime boss's niece, Lucia Villanueva. 8. A Spy Among Friends (2023)

A Spy Among Friends is a slow-burning Cold War thriller about two British 'frenemies': treacherous MI6-KGB double agent Kim Philby (Guy Pearce) and his colleague (some might say accomplice) Nicholas Elliott played by Homeland’s Damian Lewis. Elliott allows Philby to slip behind the Iron Curtain - or at least, conveniently turns away at the right moment. Anna Maxwell Martin is a fictional MI5 operative and excellent addition. Amazon is aiming for global domination with big-budget Citadel, involving an international spy agency, a syndicate named Manticore, and operatives who’ve had their memories wiped clean. Plans for Season Two were announced even before the April 2023 premiere starring Richard Madsen (The Bodyguard) and Priyanka Chopra Jonas (The Matrix Resurrections) and directed by Joe and Anthony Russo (Avengers: Infinity War, The Gray Man). An Indian spinoff is in the works for Bollywood fans, and at least three other related series are set in the Italian Alps, Spain, and Mexico. (Prime Video)

Seasoned spymaster Jackson Lamb - played superbly by Gary Oldman - is the MI5 station chief at Slough House, the London building where screwup spies bide their time performing mind-numbing administrative jobs until they have served their penance or quit in despair. 11. The Recruit (2022 - ) 

‍The Recruit’s USP is the effortlessly charming Owen Hendricks (Noah Centineo), a 20-something law school grad and a rookie CIA attorney - the ideal recruit. When Owen meets former Agency asset Max Meladze (Laura Haddock), he is drawn into an international conspiracy and soon out of his depth. Fubar revolves around Luke Brunner and his daughter Emma who finally realize they are both CIA officers. They must work together on dangerous operations, but can they let go of their parent-child relationship or is it Fubar (F***ed Up Beyond All Recognition)? (Netflix)

17. In From the Cold (2022)

Russian-born actress Margarita Levieva (The Blacklist) puts her childhood training as a rhythmic gymnast to work, performing some of her own stunts for Netflix’s spy thriller In from the Cold. She plays an American single mom exposed as an ex-Russian spy who must juggle her difficult family life and - wait for it - unique shape-shifting skills to battle a deadly enemy. (Netflix)

18. Reacher (2022) 

For those of you who haven’t read Lee Child’s novels, Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson) was a US Army Major in the military police. Now, 36, he’s moved on and is roaming the US, taking odd jobs and investigating suspicious people - inevitably finding himself in danger. In the opening of the series, Reacher is arrested for murder. Watch it for the action, enjoy it for the pulpy fun. Season One is based on Killing Floor, Child's debut novel. Season Two will be based on Bad Luck and Trouble. (Prime Video, Vudu, Apple TV)


19. Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan (2022)

Everyone’s favorite CIA analyst/field operative Jack Ryan (John Krasinski) hits his stride in Season Three which sees Jack racing across Europe to stop a rogue faction within the Russian government from restoring the Soviet Empire and starting WWIII. The Tom Clancy character made his debut in the 1984 book The Hunt For Red October and hasn’t slowed down for decades. We hear Season Four is already in production. (Prime Video)

In this heart-pumping thriller, Chris Pratt is a former Navy Seal determined to uncover the shocking truth behind the deadly ambush of his platoon during a covert mission. Pratt delivers a tour-de-force performance in The Terminal List, a heart-stopping series that will leave you craving more. Based on Jack Carr's 2018 novel of the same name. (Prime Video) 

21. True Lies (2023) 

If you’ve seen the movie starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Arnold Schwarzenegger, the series premise will sound familiar - a housewife discovers her dull computer consultant husband is an international spy. The series puts a fresh face on the concept with Steve Howey as Harry Tasker and Ginger Gonzaga as Helen. While it may not have the zing of the movie, the series is one for the family - an espionage action-adventure movie without the blood and violence. (CBS and Paramount Plus)


22. The Ipcress File (2022)

Actress Lucy Boyton stars as British spy Jean Courtney in the remake of Len Deighton’s thriller. The six-part series features Joe Cole (Peaky Blinders) as Harry Palmer, a cheeky Cockney sergeant assigned to The Ipcress File, which involves a missing scientist and possibly murder. (AMC+, Prime Video, ITV in the UK)


23. Suspicion (2022)

Suspicion, a slick remake of the Israeli series False Flag, is an FBI thriller starring Uma Thurman involving a kidnapping that sets off a trans-Atlantic chase with British suspects. Also starring Noah Emmerich (The Americans) and Elizabeth Henstridge (Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) (Apple TV+)


24. Killing Eve (2018-2022)
