Concealing items in food cans can be a messy and inefficient business but you can also arrive at something very slick and subtle.

Items required:

  • Two identical food cans
  • Strong, small magnets
  • Felt or other smooth material
  • Can opener
  • Super glue
  • Hairdryer (optional)

In brief, you’ll need to: remove the top and label from one of the cans; apply felt to the inside; secure the top back on with four small magnets; and apply a fresh label from your second can.

RFID-lined Cans to block thieves

Short on time? Retailers also sell 'safe' cans to hide your valuables. Options include Heinz Beans, Tomato Soup, and Spaghetti. It’s a quick and clever security solution to safely conceal keys, bank cards, or other precious items. The base is hidden and easily removed to reveal the secret compartment.

Some manufacturers even line cans with RFID blocking material to stop keyless entry car keys from transmitting their signal through the cans, which stop thieves from using specialist equipment to amplify the signal and access your vehicle.
