Hide Data in Plain Sight: a USB Drive Inside a Charger Cable

There are many places to hide a USB stick but sometimes hiding in plain sight is the best option. Try hiding a USB drive inside something else with a USB connector.

A basic USB charger cable can act as the decoy item.

Simply slice open one side of the plastic casing, snip the wires, remove unnecessary items from within and glue your USB drive in place where the old USB connector was previously housed.

This decoy USB drive cable accidentally has a darker side: people don’t particularly trust random USB sticks and probably won’t plug them into their machines, but nobody suspects a USB cable - it’s a cable.

Once a weaponized drive connects to a machine, it can compromise security, so SPYSCAPE has a tip to ensure this doesn’t compromise your laptop or other devices: change your machine settings to disallow auto-running of USB devices.
