Eye In The Sky

Eye In The Sky (2015) • R

Rotten Tomatoes: 95%

IMDB: 7.3 / 10

Helen Mirren is Colonel Katherine Powell, a specialist military officer in charge of a drone-based operation in Kenya aimed at thwarting terrorist plots. She discovers the whereabouts of a team of suicide bombers who are preparing to launch an attack, but her imminent drone strike on their headquarters turns into a moral dispute at the highest levels of government as a nine-year-old girl enters the target area selling bread.

OUR TAKE: Eye In The Sky is a thoughtful and provoking movie on modern warfare techniques, delving into the personal, professional, and moral implications of drone strikes, targeted surveillance and assassinations. The entire film is set around one specific strike, in which a child would be killed if a drone missile were to be launched, leading to tense negotiations and ethical arguments that spread to various intelligence agency departments and entire governments. What sets this film apart is its real-time, fast-paced insight into the world of modern espionage; time is against everyone, and we see people in positions of power both flourish and crumble as the pressure mounts.

REALISM RATING: 4.5/5
