Riddle me this...

Super sleuths quickly cracked the code embedded in the red-and-white NASA parachute that helped the Perseverance Rover land on Mars, but that’s just the warm-up. SPYSCAPE has curated 10 tough riddles, cryptic codes and brain-bending challenges from the world’s top intelligence agencies for your puzzling pleasure.

CRACK ON

Bizarre sightings on Mars

A waffle-shaped island, a cannonball and even a donut have all been spotted in photographs of Mars, amusing scientists and triggering countless conspiracy theories. Check out some of the curious objects ‘discovered’ on the Red Planet.

MARS MATTERS

NASA's search for ET

The best way to find life on other planets may not be to wait for contact but - rather more mundanely - to search for pollution. NASA’s research found that observing nitrogen dioxide (NO2) on a habitable planet might indicate the presence of ‘life’. The study is the first to examine NO2 as a possible indicator of life in outer space and the findings are exciting people way beyond UFO enthusiasts!

WASTE NOT

Are we really alone?

Up until the last few decades, the answer to whether there is life on other planets was assumed to be ‘yes’. Rather than debating existence, scientists argued about how life in the cosmos might conduct its business. The fascinating history of man’s search for extraterrestrial intelligence is, in many ways, a search for the meaning of life itself.

LIFE ON MARS

The mystery of Mars

Mars has transfixed man since ancient Chinese astronomers first named the ‘fire star’. Astronomers, star gazers (and Elon Musk) all marvel at its magic, wondering about much more than just whether there has ever been life on Mars. SPYSCAPE examines the biggest riddles.
